Skinny GG Bran Crackers & Why I'm Obsessed
So, I randomly discovered GG crackers, of all places, in MY OWN pantry. A girl friend (who happens to be in really great shape) had spent the night and left these behind so of course when I came across them and saw "appetite control cracker" I was instantly intrigued. I pulled one out and took a bite and couldn't believe my friend was snacking on this bland, tasteless cracker. Little did I know she was ahead of the game and GG cracker frenzy that would soon ensue across Instagram. Nonetheless, knowing nothing about these crackers, I tossed them quickly and carried on.
A few months later I noticed one of my favorite Instagram accounts, fitness entusiast and dietician of @healthywithnedi, was a major advocate of fiber-enriched diets and used GG crackers in her recipes on an almost daily basis so after stumbling across the GG's in a quaint local delicatessen in the Hampton's last summer I decided to give the GG's a second try.
Now, almost a year later I'm obsessed and have been eating at least 2 GG's a day since. The crackers are low in calories (12 calories per cracker) and the best source of fiber. The crackers are not to be eaten alone, so if you think you'll be popping these like Pringles think again. They are dry but the benefits are well worth it if you dress them up.
What makes GG crackers so great? For one, they are super high in fiber and very low in net carbs, meaning you can enjoy quite a few of them without feeling guilty or bloated. I notice every time I have my crackers, they keep me full and help me cut calories throughout the day.
WHY EAT MORE FIBER?
Adds bulk to food • Slows digestion • Boosts metabolism • Absorbs calories • Satisfies hunger
Most days I have my GG crackers as a snack. I top 2 crackers with 1/2 an avocado, cilantro, fresh lime juice, red crushed pepper, cracked pepper and sea salt. Easy, right? This is a quick, go-to snack and you'll hit two birds with one stone by getting healthy fats from the avocado.
For lunch, I'll have 2-4 (depending how hungry I am) crackers with a tossed salad, like this avocado tuna chickpea salad with spinach.
The options are endless – hummus, smoked salmon, cream cheese & capers, pizza, waffles, muffins, garden omelet, fiery chicken poppers, the list goes on. There are so many recipes out there that have been formulated for the GG crackers. If you're the creative type, come up with something of your own using other foods, herbs and spices you love.
Since incorporating the GG crackers into my diet I have dropped (and kept off) 5-7 pounds and consider the high-fiber food a big component in my weight loss success. A high-fiber diet is more a lifestyle than a diet or fad, and although you'll see benefits short term, the true benefits come down the road after sticking with it. I pack them when I travel and often bring them out to eat to sub something fattening (i.e.bread or chips) out. Like I said, it's a lifestyle.
If you're looking to tone and tighten up, give the skinny GG bran crackers a try. They are not currently sold in any Houston stores so the place to buy them is via Amazon. I buy 5 packs at a time so that I never run out – so hooked!
