Drunk in Love with Drunk Elephant Skincare
Drunk Elephant – where do I sign up for this party?
I first discovered Drunk Elephant at an event they hosted at Tootsies several years ago. I didn't know much about the brand other than the founder, Tiffany Masterson, was from Houston and her skincare line was already on the shelves in Sephora which is a winning combo in my book as I love supporting fellow Houstonians and it was safe to assume if she was selling to the biggest national skincare and beauty retailer that her products had to be great. Since then, her natural-meets-clinical beauty brand has become a worldwide phenomenon and receives recognition year after year from leaders in the industry and top publications like the Allure Best of Beauty award.
The line has become one of the fastest-growing skincare companies in Sephora history, as reported by WWD, and for good reason – the skin care line is 100 percent non-toxic — meaning there are no questionable ingredients included – and the products work! It doesn't hurt that the packaging is fun, innovative, and aesthetically appealing on any vanity.
The Lala Retro Whipped Cream moisturizer was my foray into the DE products and I really loved it so when Tiffany sent me some of her favorite products I was excited to dive in and fall "drunk in love" with the rest of her line. What I like about the moisturizer is that it's rich and moisturizing without feeling greasy or heavy and that it's loaded with antioxidants and other revolutionary anti-aging ingredients that are working to improve skin day and night. Formulated with a creamy blend of African oils, I can feel the difference in my skin right away and say goodbye to dull skin and hello to a fresh, luminous glow.
The 19-count product line is made up of a staple base including cleansing, correcting, exfoliating, moisturizing and protecting categories that take care of everything the skin needs for day to day health. Each product is infused with her secret weapon, virgin marula oil from Africa and as few other ingredients as possible. After incorporating the DE lineup into my beauty routine, I've found a few that target my skin concerns, work really well for me and deserve some recognition. Here is a product breakdown of my favorites.
Umbra™ Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30 – This SPF pulls off a brilliant vanishing act – no white streaks, no shine. It's got a very light consistency, almost like a water-based lotion. This makes it really easy to rub in and also means it soaks up quickly. I have found that even some of the nicest sunscreens leave my skin shiny or feeling a little dirty and this one doesn't which I really appreciate. It has no sunblock-y scent either. I lathered this on before a full day outdoors and felt protected and moisturized throughout.
Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil – Where has this been all my life? I have dry skin in the winter and get dry patches around my jawline and this really helps restore the hydration to my skin. Adding just a few drops of this to my nighttime routine lets me wake up to soft, bright skin!
B-Hydra™ Intensive Hydration Gel – If you haven't noticed, I'm obsessed with hydrated skin. This product is lightweight and undetectable once it's on your skin and since my skin is dry I like to double up on hydration and wear this with my moisturizer. I apply this before my moisturizer – day and night – for an extra surge of hydration – it really is like a tall glass of water for your skin. It soaks right into your face, layers perfectly under makeup and leaves skin feeling plumped and smooth. If you don't have a hydration gel, run don't walk and get this for yourself.
Lippe Balm – This hydrating balm not only leaves lip soft and moisturized, but it's cute to boot. It's long lasting and doesn't make your lips feel dry once it wears off like some others do. I wear it around the house and I wear it out for a subtle, natural look and reapply nonstop because I love the way it feels.
T.L.C. Sukary Babyfacial – I haven't tried this one yet since I got a chemical peel this month but I do know that it was Sephora's best-selling skincare product of 2016 and it's packed with a powerful blend of alpha and beta hydroxy acids. It's said to works best when used once a week and works as an at-home facial to exfoliate and slough away old, dull skin and leaves your face glowing and smooth without the irritation of a regular peel.
"The name Drunk Elephant is rooted in a myth that says elephants love to eat the fruit that has fallen from Marula trees where inside their very large tummies it ferments making the elephants drunk." –Tiffany masterson
