Holy Matcha San Diego

If you know me, you know I can appreciate any hyper-'grammable aesthetic so when I stumbled upon Holy Matcha while exploring in San Diego I had to make a stop. This was my first foray  into matcha so between finally getting my hands on this interesting green drink and the chic decor I was pretty excited to see what it's all about.

Every detail inside the cafe exists to serve your Instagram needs – from marble tabletops, to velvet pink blush benches, pink ceilings, and palm-print wallpaper the entire place had me swooning. They even have really pretty floral arrangements on every table and counter.

The menu consists of hot and iced matcha drinks along with some delicious fresh lemonade options and yummy treats (vegan donuts, avocado toast, soft serve) to go with them. I ordered a traditional matcha tea with almond milk and passed on food since we were already coming from breakfast.

After giving it a try I can't really say I'm in love with it – the texture is a bit powder-like and too thick to associate with tea but I did like the actual taste of it. That being said, I'm always looking for ways to promote all-natural health and wellness and matcha has a long list of nutritional benefits that I need to get in on. Anti-aging properties for glowing skin? Yes please. Boosts metabolism? Yes please. For that, I think I'll skip the latte and opt for a matcha more often.

Yeah, I wanted to know too! Matcha literally means "powdered tea." When you order traditional green tea, components from the leaves get infused into hot water and then the leaves are discarded. Brewing matcha consists of whisking the shade-grown powered leaves in hot water rather than simply steeping. The entire leaf is consumed, carrying with it a unique taste as well as amazing nutritional benefits.

Boosts your metabolism • Relaxes you & keeps you alert at the same time • Detoxes the body • Helps skin glow • Helps with memory • Strengthens your immune system • Loaded with antioxidants, amino acids, fiber, vitamins

While I was in, I shopped their selection of all natural supplements and teas. I've seen Moon Juice a lot on Instagram so I picked up a few single packets to give them a try. Each jar contains "dust" to be added to matcha, tea, milk, water, or smoothies and ingredients with proven benefits to help target specific needs, and promote a positive mind and mood.
